The First Case of SARS InLiaoning Province
At 13:00 of April 19th, Public Health Department
of Liaoning Province (PHDLN) was informed by Health Bureau
of Huludao City that a highly suspected SARS case was found
in the Central Hospital of Huludao City. The persons in charge
from the Office of Liaoning Anti-SARS Leading Group arrived
at the central hospital soon. At 22:00 of April 19th, the
case was diagnosed SARS by provincial experts team. This is
the first extrinsic SARS case found in Liaoning province.
The patient is a female farmer named Wang, who
lives in Suizhong County of Huludao City. She visited her
SARS relative in Beijing from April 9th to 15th and was back
to her county by April 15th. From April 17th, the patient
began to feel "sustained fever, tired and uncomfortable".
At 08:00 of April 19th, the initial diagnosis of highly suspected
SARS and isolated treatments was then made immediately by
the central hospital when the patient seeing doctor.
Now, under the supervision of the provincial experts
team, the health authorities of Huludao City targeted the
infectious field and contracted people. The further clinical
isolated monitoring and sterilizations to those people are
under going. The concerned traffic and health authorities
are cooperating on the investigation of the traffic tools
that patient took, and all the relevant tools will be started
a process of sterilization.
Together with the municipal health authorities, Dr. Jiang
Chao, director-general of PHDLN is steering the provincial
experts team to further control of the infection, treatment
and limit of the sustained cases, following the Prepared Anti-SARS
Working Process.
PHDLN calls on all the health authorities, including
medical organizations and anti-infection organizations in
Liaoning Province to enhance the work of monitoring, and to
strictly perform the System of Infection Report. The fever
departments of all Level 2 hospitals in Liaoning should be
paid more attention, focusing on the work of earlier finding,
reporting, isolating and treating. 24 hours monitoring systems
must be satisfied in all supervision organizations. All the
counties and districts must set up their own special infection
and clinic teams from now on. Facing the challenge, all the
Anti-SARS work will be done firmly and courageously. Meanwhile,
widespread health education will be advocated to make the
public know the knowledge of prevention and self-protection
from SARS.
All the important areas such as railway stations,
bus stops, ship terminals, airports, hospitals and schools
in Liaoning should be specially monitored. The further prevention
process and medication preparation must be adequate and ready.
The relative provincial-level organizations and the municipal-level
organizations will cooperate together to win the war of anti-SARS
and to keep the public security. The media should play its
important role of stabilizing society and diminishing worries
of local people by timely reporting infections, prevention
methods and relevant anti-SARS measures by the governmental
authorities.
